The application of Information and Communication Technologies in the teaching field has an increasing impact on the teaching-learning process of students and it is demonstrated that their motivation increases if it becomes an active part of their learning.
In the specific case of mechanical engineering students, these technologies will permit the students to dispose of learning tools which provide a better comprehension and development of the inverse engineering processes with the aim of creating a digitalized design of a tangible object or set up new designs with a better appearance and functionality.
With this objective the present communication proposes a series of low cost tools which will help engineering students to learn the basics of scanning and three-dimensional reconstruction of objects, point clouds or mesh of an object, reverse engineering, exporting to other CAD formats and preparation of models for rapid prototype printing.
