Nowadays, shipbuilding new projects have been conditioned by a globalization framework that requires of an increasingly demanding term and cost competitiveness. Thereby, it is necessary a continuous study of improvement and optimization proposals, related to both the shipbuilding Project, as to the shipyards facilities. The present paper presents a number of enhancements focused on two main routes, such as the production-oriented design and the shipyard restructuring workshops and facilities.
It will be show how a correct standardization of the components in the design phase contributes to a cost reduction in their acquisition and an improvement in the personnel apprenticeship curve, in charge of their assembly and maintenance. Therefore, the term and labor costs are reduced.
Likewise, different lay-out techniques and several Quality Management production-applied methodologies will be analyzed, whose application will allow optimizing the workshops facilities, as well as the shipyard resources, in order to reduce process times and be able even to diversify new business lines.
