As a way of improving the efficiency of the facility, the plumbing project of a building may include water saving devices and/or systems. In such case, are selected those that are best suited, among the commercial devices.
A methodology is proposed, adapting the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), to decide which water saving system is the most suitable. To do this, some selection criteria are defined: water saving, energy saving, social and environmental impact, design, and economic viability of the system.
The way to quantify each selection criterion is defined. Valuations of water saving systems, for each selection criterion, are normalized by a distributed model. Those criteria on which normalized value can be negative (energy saving and economic viability) are corrected by applying a rule-based methodology.
The best water saving system to equip a building is the best valued applying the AHP method.
