The convergence of Spanish universities with the Bologna Accord has made innovative teaching a current topic. Innovative teaching systems, driven by the European Higher Education Area, develop a model that has left many teachers wondering how to apply these techniques in the development of their subjects. Innovation should not be seen solely as methods of innovation in social orientation in the content, methodologies or technologies, but must also be classified according to the mode in which it occurs as methods of addition, reinforcement, removal, replacement, alteration and restructuring. This paper discloses an experience carried out in the subject of Industrial Design taught in the first year of the Industrial Technologies Degree. In this experience self-guided learning has been evaluated as a method of methodological and technological teaching innovation which can be classified as a method of adding and replacing content. The results obtained manifest clear advantages that have made this experience a method adopted for teaching in industrial design.
