In spite of spatial limitations on the scope of urban agriculture’s market potential, it can significantly contribute to a family’s own dietary needs by providing food of superior nutritional quality. Because gardening provides readily available fresh food, employment and potential business opportunities, urban agriculture is an increasingly popular response to demographic growth. The results of 384 surveys applied in the cities of Ixtepec, Juchitán, Tehuantepec and Salina Cruz in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico yielded the following results: 73.06% of the respondents buy Saladet tomatoes; 36.6% buy them every other day; 84.87% buy from one to two kilos per week; 79.34% buy tomatoes at the local market; 62.73% use them to cook and 54.98% say that the price is their foremost consideration when making a purchase.
