In recent years, fuel consumption and competition in transport have generated that the vehicles optimization is a critical phase in the design of all types of vehicles. The developed study include the design, numerical analysis by means of the Finite Element Method and experimental test of an optimized floor for cargo area of a 5 meters traditional vehicle intended for the carriage of goods. Traditionally these floors are composed by steel I-beams and plywood with low performance. In the developed study, a complete redesign has been carried out. I-beams and plywood have been replaced by folded profiles of high strength steel and plywood with low thickness and high performance. The obtained results show a 35% reduction in weight of the optimized floor of the cargo area compared to traditional floor. This weight reduction entails a reduction of manufacturing cost, which compensates the higher cost of materials. As result of study, a lightened floor with a performance slightly higher with respect to a traditional floor for trucks has been obtained
