IMPACTO DEL PROYECTO ¨GENERACIÓN Y RESTAURACIÓN DE ÁREAS VERDES PARA CIUDAD DE GUAYAQUIL ¨ EN POBLACIÓN DE ISLA SANTAY ¨
Resumen
The Ecuadorian island Santay, located on river Guayas 800 meters far from Guayaquil city, is a protected area because of its biodiversity, natural resources, beauty and historical and cultural value. It is also an important location for ecological tourism. Since the declaration as a Ramsar wetland, its conservation is of global interest, as its surrounding water provides the habitat for several species of animals and plants. The Project ¨Generation and restoration of green areas for Guayaquil city ¨, has given special attention to the island Santay and its community, building infrastructure for the development of tourism, as well as new eco-friendly dwellings for the 56 families that inhabit the island. This paper assesses the impact of the Project in the development and quality of life of the island´s population. Based on bibliographical material and statistical data, complemented with interviews and surveys for the local population, the evolution of the unsatisfied basic needs (NBI) and its simple indicators is analyzed. The work allows its replicability in other contexts.
