dc.descriptionLa isla ecuatoriana Santay, ubicada en el rio Guayas a 800 de la ciudad de Guayaquil es una área protegida por su biodiversidad, recursos naturales, paisajismo, valor histórico y cultural. Es además un importante lugar de turismo ecológico. Desde la declaratoria como humedal Ramsar, su conservación es de interés mundial, pues sus aguas circundantes proporcionan un hábitat para varias especies de animales y plantas. El Proyecto ¨ Generación y restauración de áreas verdes para la ciudad de Guayaquil ¨ ha prestado especial atención a la isla Santay y a su población, construyendo infraestructura para el desarrollo del turismo, así como nuevas viviendas ecológicas para las 56 familias que habitan la isla. En este artículo se evalúa el impacto del proyecto en el desarrollo y la calidad de vida de su población. A partir de material bibliográfico y de datos estadísticos, complementado con la realización de entrevistas y encuestas a la población local, se analiza la evolución del indicador de necesidades básicas insatisfechas (NBI) y sus indicadores simples, estableciendo correlaciones entre aspectos determinantes. El trabajo permite su replicabilidad en otros conceptos.es_ES
dc.description.abstractThe Ecuadorian island Santay, located on river Guayas 800 meters far from Guayaquil city, is a protected area because of its biodiversity, natural resources, beauty and historical and cultural value. It is also an important location for ecological tourism. Since the declaration as a Ramsar wetland, its conservation is of global interest, as its surrounding water provides the habitat for several species of animals and plants. The Project ¨Generation and restoration of green areas for Guayaquil city ¨, has given special attention to the island Santay and its community, building infrastructure for the development of tourism, as well as new eco-friendly dwellings for the 56 families that inhabit the island. This paper assesses the impact of the Project in the development and quality of life of the island´s population. Based on bibliographical material and statistical data, complemented with interviews and surveys for the local population, the evolution of the unsatisfied basic needs (NBI) and its simple indicators is analyzed. The work allows its replicability in other contexts.es_ES
