he degradation of an oil can be caused by three main mechanisms , hydrolysis, oxidation and thermal decomposition. This paper has analyzed a synthetic oil with characteristics of Type II thermal and oxidation stability , load capacity and flow characteristics at low temperatures. The effect of opening the can for 6 months was analyzed and it was found that when removing the oil immediately absorbs humidity increasing acidity in a small amount . The effect of light was also analyzed and suffered but little change in the observation period , is to highlight the great blackout suffered by the samples exposed to light. The oils were subjected to controlled aging exposing them to conditions that could cause decomposition and consumption of its two main additives. Different mixtures of oil, water and catalysts in the presence of moisture and metal catalysts ( iron and copper ) were prepared. In the samples with metal catalysts was observed that the greater the presence of iron was increased degradation rate and lower in the presence of copper , the same effect observed in the presence of water .
