In the Big Data era, the economic growth of technology-based-companies is conditioned upon their knowledge management, learning skills and their R&D&i. Particularly, a company’s knowledge is key to improve the way it is managed and its competitiveness. Nowadays, companies in the construction industry are making a significant effort to implement BIM. This implementation requires embracing collaborative work among the different stakeholders involved in the construction process. Indeed, knowledge management in BIM projects is related to the creation, storage, transference and implementation of such knowledge in a virtual 3D construction model. The project size can also condition the optimum management approach. The major problems derived from poor knowledge management are lack of coordination among stakeholders, information losses, the incorrect interpretation of information. The aim of this study is to propose a method for a better knowledge management of projects developed in BIM environments. It is expected that this model will help overcoming some of the potential problems described previously. Keywords: BIM; collaborative work; knowledge management; construction industry
