    Abstract
The management of complex projects such as platforms and naval systems requires facing the future challenges by implementing solutions for improving competitiveness and the value chain and by setting up a distinctive competitive advantage within the framework of the so-called "Fourth Industrial Revolution" as proposed by the project "Industry 4.0 for Spain"; underway by the Ministry of Industry. This implies improving the integration of the information technology and communication (ITC) with the productive processes of 21 century shipyards by incorporating the technological innovations that are taking place in the field of digital technologies, what will bring insight into of the future Shipyard 4.0". Within the context of improving the production process, the idea of automating and computerizing the current way of managing the functional requirements for platforms and naval systems by applying more modern automating and computerizing techniques is a "lever of substantial change" for the improvement of the value chain and the competitiveness sought by the "Shipyard 4.0" to position itself within the market conditions.
