Currently, wind energy, wich is produced in wind farms connected to the electricity grid, is the second largest renewable energy source worldwide, with an installed capacity of 650.5 GW at the end of 2019, and a large future projection in the energy context. In particular, the offshore wind industry, with an installed capacity of 29.1 GW (GWEC, 2020), spread over more than 150 wind farms in operation, is based on the experience of the offshore wind industry, as well as codes and norms of gas and oil implantations at sea.
This communication gives an overview of high production wind energy in the marine environment, where Europe has the most installed power worldwide. Its historical evolution is also developed from the beginning until the current projects of increasing powers with multi-megawatt wind turbines and greater distances to the coast.
