The Circular Economy (CE) is a recent concept that has gained significant recognition in politics, business and academia, because is considered an innovative alternative in many sectors for satisfying production and consumption needs in more sustainable ways. In the construction and demolition sector, research on implementing CE has not been widely explored and limited to partial approaches, specially recovery alternatives. There is a need of developing extensive research that consider the application of circular strategies in the entire lifecycle of construction and demolition activities. The main objective of this work is to provide a comprehensive review of current regional and national circular economy initiatives influencing the construction and demolition sector in Spain. A comprehensive literature review was carried out to understand CE functioning and main initiatives involved. The strategies identified are particularly focused on waste management and use of recovered materials as secondary building materials.
