The work aims to assess the effect of influent characterization, kinetics and stoichiometry in the modeling of metabolic shift of PAOs (model proposed by Acevedo et al., 2014). This model was implemented in Matlab® software using two methods of Global Sensitivity Analysis to identify the factors with the greatest influence on the model predictions: the Standardized Regression Coefficient (SRC) and the Modified Morris Screening Method. The SRC method did not represent all the output factors because it does not provide information about the interacting factors. The Morris Method, based on trajectories, obtains better results in less time and computational cost, avoiding the exclusion of influential factors, as happens with the SRC. The inclusion of the initial characterization (IC) in the Morris Method may exclude the factors that represent the shift in PAM-GAM metabolism. Therefore, the combination of the Morris Method (with and without IC) is recommended for the detection of high-influence parameters, minimizing type II error. A large number of non-influential factors are detected, 36 (anaerobic phase) and 27 (aerobic phase) and thus the calibration needs of the model parameters can be reduced, prior to its employment in real cases.
