This work shows the design of a preventive maintenance plan based on the reliability analysis of the most conflictive assets in a sugar cane transformation company located in the Dominican Republic, where this sector (sugar cane) is strategic.
The objectives go beyond the design of the maintenance plan, but also in increasing the reliability of the facilities and reducing costs due to production stoppages due to breakdowns.
In addition, interventions must interfere as little as possible with production so as not to penalize the availability and productivity of the plant.
From the analysis and resolution of the presented situation, it is discovered that the most expensive failures are focused on few machines and few failure modes, fulfilling the Pareto theory. Parameters are also obtained to establish a quantified starting point: Failure rates of the different production equipment, Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF), and Mean Time of Down Time due to breakdown.
The preventive maintenance plan that has just been proposed is a balance between reliability and intervention frequency, but it is able to organize whole maintenance operations, reducing maintenance costs.
