Aromatic and medicinal plants are a natural resource of great value in areas such as pharmaceutical, food or perfumery and cosmetics. In Andalusia, one of the species that proliferates is the gum rockrose (Cistus Ladanifer L.), from which two main by-products are obtained, labdanum oil and cistus essential oil. It is a product of interest to the industry, mainly cosmetic, but that hardly entails the creation of wealth for the areas where natural resources are found, in this case the rockrose.
In order to the added value returns over primary producers and supports rural development, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía has awarded a grant to carry out a pilot project of a transportable process plant for the transformation of vegetable species for obtaining essences and essential oils for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and natural fragrances sector based on rockrose and other vegetable species.
The objective of this work is to describe the main aspects related to the project engineering of this transportable process plant.
