    Abstract
The hydraulic study of water pipes both in project work, sizing and pressure analysis, as well as in the work of surveys or analysis of the pathologies or operation of existing facilities that do not provide the minimum operating conditions established by regulations, requires of knowledge of the absolute roughness of the material used. This paper shows the experimental protocol for obtaining the absolute roughness of the material. The tests of two pipes of identical material (polypropylene) and geometric characteristics are performed, obtaining the value of the absolute roughness by means of the equations of the applicable fluid mechanics for any type of incompressible viscous fluid, as well as obtaining the value of the coefficient of Hazen-Williams friction applicable exclusively for pressurized water, in both cases in uniform and permanent turbulent regime. The results of the tests are validated by three methods, by applying the equations of fluid mechanics, by the Hazen-William equation and by studying by computational dynamics (CFD) that allows to know and quantify the distribution of pressures and water velocities inside the pipes, through the use of specific software.
