Managing natural spaces, with a balance between visitors and environmental sustainability, is a challenge already tackled in many scientific papers. This study targets this issue from a system dynamics approach. A model has been constructed to simulate the flow of visitors in a summer day to the Ordesa sector in the Spanish Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. Using system dynamics methodology it is possible to intervene in those variables that affect the arrival of visitors, vehicles parking and the shuttle bus system between the Torla parking and the Ordesa meadow, in accordance with this sector’s carrying capacity. It can be concluded that the schedule ant the number of shuttle buses are two of the factors with more influence over the flow of visitor arriving to the trails. This study proves the usefulness of system dynamics modelling to the park managers when they need to simulate different scenarios and adopt proper strategies.
