An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is an information system that supports and integrates many aspects of a business, including planning, manufacturing, sales and
marketing. Currently these ERP systems have a wide implantation in all type of companies worldwide. These systems are modular and adaptable to each company requirements. Numerous IT projects have been developed to implement, adapt or maintain that kind of systems. On the other hand, budgets and deadlines of IT projects are exceeded regularly and an accurate estimation of the resources and time required for the project development are essential for project management. In this study, the specific characteristics of IT projects in ERP systems are analyzed, opposite to the typical IT projects. The main factors that could determine project time estimation are also studied. For the research, projects data from ISBSG repository (International Software Benchmarking Standards Group) will be taken as reference.
