The new multipurpose low speed crash testing device (LSD) enables to perform different impact tests within a range of speed from 2,5 to 20 km/h, according to the vehicle mass. It has a modular design and quick interchange ability of the required barriers and impact trolleys. They technical and functional characteristics make it innovative:
1. Compact design (little room is required for the complete installation).
2. The bumper test is performed through a linear impact of the ballast i.l.o the standard pendulum, using the same trolley and drag mechanism as for the RCAR tests.
3. The drag device for the vehicles and impact trolley is a pneumatic system controlled by self learning software. To obtain the target speed for each test, this software
computes the vehicle mass, the ambient temperature and the friction forces of the whole system, to determine the correct gas pressure of the pneumatic actuator.
This low speed impact testing device is presently in the start up phase in Centro Técnico Martorell and it was developed in collaboration with CV Concept Consulting of Austria.
