Adapting driving position with different technical aids, in order that it could be used by persons with limited mobility, can carry a loss of the safety original conditions in the vehicle. The object of this study is to carry out the first step to determine the interaction between these devices and the passive safety level.
Firstly, an analysis of the different types of adaptations has been done, studying its geometry and its location and connecting these factors to the minimal levels of safety of the vehicle crash survival space. Secondly, a classification has been established depending on the impact type (frontal, side or rear impact) and on the possible interaction with the different types of passive safety devices that could be originally installed in the vehicle.
Due to the existence of great diversity of adapted car controls and the impossible standardization, because they are thought for persons with very concrete characteristics, this
first study is used to determine the most unfavorable cases for their later evaluation.
