The Universal Multifractal model (UM) can be used to study the variability of rainfall when considering it like a multiplicative cascade type process. The objective of the present work is to analyze an historical rainfall data series by using the UM model, in order to increase the knowledge of the fractal nature of rainfall. The parameters that characterize the universal multifractal model allow the obtaining of the theoretical scaling exponent function. The comparison of both empirical and theoretical scaling exponent functions let to conclude that the UM model can be used to describe the rainfall data series analyzed.
