The construction industry, backbone of the global economy, moves every year around 10,000 m$ with increases of 13% per annum. Construction projects today are carried out in a very similar way to those of several decades ago: most of the work is still done on the site, with little automation and process optimization. This implies that construction companies have much lower productivity growth than the whole. In recent years it has been tried to solve this problem by developing new light materials and constructive methodologies, which can make a difference. These advances on several fronts have opened up enormous potential towards improving the productivity in construction especially through the off-site construction.
This work analyzes the current situation, with different ways of facing the modular construction and its main agents, determining the keys in which this market will move in the future in the search for greater efficiency, less waste and improved security.
