The sea is an inexhaustible energy source that is not being exploited to its full potential.Tidal or wave energy is a clean, renewable offshore energy without CO2 emissions. It consists in the use of kinetic and potential energy of waves to produce electricity. Although the wave and tidal energy industry is still under research and technological development, it is considered an emerging industry.
Spain is one of the main countries where differents technologies of tidal energy are being developed. Spain in the future hopes to become a global leader in wave energy.
This article presents Spanish legislation to manage this type of project and the methodology to identify the environmental impacts of energy waves devices more developed in Spain.
