The Spanish industrial heritage is considered much worse than other Spanish heritage sectors and industrial heritage in other countries. The 2001 Industrial Heritage National Plan (PNPI) was a first step in the enhancement of this asset typology. But much remains to be done, and one of the main needs which can be identified is having an appropriate methodology for the categorization, classification and study of industrial heritage´s assets. This work develops an own methodology and gives a clear criteria for its application to a large number of selected items creating an own catalogue.
Four sources with different approaches are considered for the study of their elements; the assets selected by the National Plan, the elements identified by The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage (TICCIH) in 2011, the cultural assets (BIC) of industrial type and elements with new uses actually. All these elements form an extensive catalogue which considers the most significant information of each perspective. Every immovable asset is classified by methodology criteria into four groups within a matrix system. This methodology is easy applied and does not dismiss any immovable asset because of its age, typology or any other characteristic for inclusion in the catalogue.
