Latin America and the Caribbean is the only region in achieving the goal of halving the percentage of hungry people of the Millennium Development Goals. This was due especially to the development of social protection policies such as school feeding programs, one of the most successful as a strategy to overcome poverty and malnutrition.
One of the keys to success is the adaptation of these programs to the idiosyncrasies of each country. This research analyzes the School Feeding Programme of El Salvador. The results show the importance of a comprehensive and multisectoral intervention to improve outcomes in relation to implementation of the right to food and nutritional food security. It works on improving the quality of the menus through local purchases from small producers, the Food and Nutrition Education, training the entire educational community, including local government and social audit is strengthened. Therefore it affects two ways: on the health of students and their families, and the revitalization of local economies in rural areas.
