Nowadays the production of electricity from wind energy is very important for the energy mix in many countries, being the most established renewable energy worldwide.
At the end of 2015 there was 432,419 MW of wind power installed worldwide, of which 11,551 MW were for offshore wind farms. In that year a total of 96 marine wind farms were in operation, 18 under construction and dozens of licensed facilities were recorded. In addition, the growing number of marine deployments and the higher power of these, makes necessary the best guidance on alignments of wind turbines that reduce the action of contrails produced in their rotors to avoid loss of production.
The aim of this paper is to propose a criterion for the optimization of the implementation of large offshore wind farms in the design phase, based on geometric configurations of wind turbines so that the effects of wakes can be minimized and, therefore, the production of electric power maximized.
