    Abstract
Water distribution networks (water supply systems, industrial networks, irrigation, ...) needs, more and more, the use of pumping units for guarantee minimum pressures in consumption points. The problem is related to the development of water supply projects that optimize energy consumption. Therefore, in this paper a methodology for allocating flow in the supply points is developed. This methodology is based on the use of the concept of set-point curve of each supply point. The methodology includes two approaches: the first method called discrete method and a second method called continuous method. In the first a series of pre-defined combinations of pumps operation are evaluated. In the second, finding the optimal solution is performed using two optimization algorithms: Hooke and Jeeves, and Nelder-Mead. The hydraulic model used for the evaluation of solutions through its EPANET toolkit application. Finally, the method applies to the determination of the optimal flow distribution of a real system.
