    Abstract
Product-Service Systems (PSS) have a big sustainable potential. But a PSS is not sustainable just by definition. Although in general terms a PSS is more sustainable than a traditional product based system, additional factors must be considered. Environmental, economic and social impacts must be analyzed in each case in order to know if its sustainability is bigger than the traditional product based system that is being replaced. In the present work PSS sustainable potential is analyzed, being focused on the environmental aspects. Different approaches from the literature are reviewed and the strategies which make a PSS with less environmental impact than the traditional system are analyzed. Finally, several real experiences are analyzed and a new classification system depending on the strategy that reduce the environmental impact used is proposed, in order to have a better understanding of each PSS contribution to sustainable development.
