This paper describes the design of hydraulic power unit that are servo driven, autonomous and based on volumetric control, competing in efficiency, dynamics and environmental impact with the most currently developed technologies.
The use of dedicated control for hydraulic power unit, proves to be a costly and difficult to implement solution for applications were de productions series are medium or small. The environmental impact caused by the low efficiency, recycling of consumables, noise and cooling requirements of traditional resistive control power units, justify the work presented here.
This project is presented as a stand-alone, generally applicable solution that can be implemented either in new equipment or as retrofitting, without the use of dedicated engineering for its implementation. The components used in its construction are standard, avoiding the inconvenience and cost of proprietary solutions. The advantages associated with high efficiency, prove to be beneficial in terms of lifetime of consumable products, contributing to the reduction of environmental costs, maintenance costs and downtime.
The article introduces the principle of hydraulic operation, the controller, the sensing, and discusses the selection of components needed to build a marketable solution with generic purposes.
