During the design of any building project of a structural element, it is important to analyze certain variables inherent to the selection of manufacturing codes or standards, which may affect project economics. In this work, the economic impact involved in selecting German (KTA standards) or American standards (ASME B&PV code) for the manufacture of nuclear reactor vessels for the nuclear industry are analyzed. These standards have been selected because they are, at present, of application to Spanish nuclear power stations. The methodology is based on an analysis of direct costs and an analysis of indirect costs arising from the selection of manufacturing standards of nuclear reactor pressure-vessels. In general, it has been concluded that the selection of ASME B&PV generates a lower cost compared to the selection of the KTA standards for the manufacture of nuclear reactor pressure-vessels.
