Planning and control are the basic functions of project management, in the construction industry too. Peru is growing at a fast pace during the last decade; this fact is also reflected in planned and built infrastructures. This paper analyzes the use and implementation of planning and control techniques and methods in that country, as well as the difficulties for the right implementation of these functions in civil engineering projects; it also explores the use of alternative techniques and methods based on lean construction. All this is carried out through an in-depth literature review. From this analysis, selected variables allow formulating the answers of the questionnaire. Fieldwork comprises the procurement of responses from professionals involved in design, construction and management of infrastructures. Data analysis and discussion of results lead to proposals that improve construction management in the Peruvian context.
