In the present communication the advantages and disadvantages of implementing a Local Network or Microgeodetic Network, with enough precision for the project management on civil engineering works, are analyzed.
We study the materialization of a network that covers an area 12 km long and 5 km wide, in A Coruña (Galicia), supported by two survey points located on the east and west of it.
These studies were performed at different stages: (1) Geometric design and network planning. (2) Observation and outdoor network construction, and surveying with classic topographical techniques. (3) Network calculation, error compensation and statistical analysis.
The main conclusion is that the use of microgeodetic networks can provide planimetric accuracies between 1.5 and 4 cm, and altimetry accuracies between 3 and 6 cm, which gives to the project manager a superior precision, compared with other topographical techniques, likewise Global Positioning Systems. All this affects little on the economic costs assigned to the project management.
