Up to the moment, the Spanish EHE (concrete) and EAE (steel) are the only structural Codes including models for assessing the sustainability of structural systems, in the international arena. Those models suffer of an important set of problems, previously identified by various authors. This has led to a poor implementation of them. One of those problems is that the EHE and EAE models are specific for each of those structural systems (concrete, steel). This prevents the corresponding comparisons. Another hitch, much more important, is that the results of applying those models could be very different than the ones obtained through the use of the Life Cycle Analysis technique (LCA). This paper presents a model that combines the MIVES method with the LCA, solving both mentioned problems.
