There are various bivalve-canning-producing countries generating large amounts of waste shell, and experimenting important environmental problems. Spain is one of them. Particularly, Galicia (NW Spain) is among the regions with the biggest production in the world. Bearing in mind the amount of generated waste, the essential problem in Galicia is the mussel shell. A potential solution is the valorization of the shell, turning the waste into a by-product that could be used as construction material. This paper presents five deterministic, MIVES-based models for assessing sustainability of five bound applications based in the total or partial replacement of conventional aggregate by mussel shell: structural mass concrete; cement, lime and mud mortars; and hot bituminous mixtures. Those models include the usual environmental, social, and economic fields. The results will help in the sustainable design of a wide variety of constructions.
