NUEVOS USOS DEL PATRIMONIO INDUSTRIAL: ESTUDIO DE LA RECUPERACIÓN DE LA ANTIGUA FÁBRICA DE TABACOS DE MÁLAGA

Abstract

To conceive heritage as a testimony of a period and as a historic document allows us to understand the importance of the industrial heritage. The evolution of the concept of cultural heritage is observed in this work and after submitting an overview of its characteristics, it is under study the need to maintain certain buildings with an outdated industrial activity, proposing their recovery for new uses to empower such goods. The legal and regulatory framework and the local protection initiatives are discussed at an international, national, regional and local level, discussion is also held on the management of specific examples, establishing intervention and valuation criteria to be taken into account for the reuse of the industrial architectural heritage. Moreover, the current conservation of the industrial heritage in Málaga is studied taking into consideration the history of the industrialization of the city and its impact on the urban landscape as a starting point. Finally, the investigation ends up with a detailed study of the recovery of the ancient tobacco factory for its cultural value as an example of the industrial architectural heritage, placing particular emphasis on the new uses of this building in the last few years.
