The financial scandals in the past decade, rampant corruption in the public sphere, the deceptions that have made some corporations to distort and "tweaking" results are clear signs that the leadership needs to be reconsidered. Given this reality has emerged a theoretical model that articulates a set of processes for more reliable leadership. This is the Authentic Leadership model developed from Positive Organizational Psychology and intends to respond to the positive characteristics of leaders to exercise an honest, transparent and oriented to the common good influence. This model has been supported by empirical research in various organizational areas. The results suggest that the real leadership develops a greater commitment and productivity of followers. If so, and if it is assumed that the project manager is a leader in every rule, relevance, application and development of authentic leadership model would be a necessary step in the development agenda and conceptual evolution of Project Management. The review of scientific literature on the state of the art of authentic leadership in the field of project management will be developed in the following article.
