The Ida tropical storm destroyed the bridge over San Antonio river during 2009, leaving some coastal villages of El Salvador incommunicated. The international cooperation aid drived the bridge reconstruction. Due to location of the bridge, vulnerable to floods, the first performance carried out was a comprehensive hydraulic study. The segment under consideration was modeled. The maximum flood level for rainfall with return period of 100 and 500 years was calculated. The local scour at abutments was also calculated. The lowest level of the bottom of the deck was established, in order to respect the safety level and the position of foundations. The characteristics of the brigde are : - Bridge of bow string tipology with a span of 36 m. and 13,8 m. wide. - Deck of pre-stressed concrete girders an a compression slab at the top of the girders of 20 cm. - Two arches of reinforced concrete. - The bottom of the arches are linked by a reinforced concrete tie. The bridge was inaugurated on 16 July of 2014.
