This paper presents the results of a study whose objective was to design and calculate a photovoltaic solar installation connected to the network to meet the electrical needs of a municipal sports centre, while also having the option of selling excess energy production to the network or putting it to use for other public purposes. Three options are presented. The first and second options propose covering the entire roof with photovoltaic modules in order to produce the maximum quantity of electrical energy possible. However, while the first option purchases necessary energy from the network and sells all the energy produced to the network, the second employs a net balance system with the network. The third alternative utilises the minimum number of photovoltaic modules necessary to satisfy the sports centre's annual electrical consumption. In addition to evaluating the cumulative savings produced, this study also examines how the selling price of the energy produced affects the amortisation of the installation and its viability. The importance of a suitable relationship between the selling and purchase prices was also confirmed, so as to guarantee the project's economic viability and its environmental sustainability.
