    Resumen
Product Design to provide high efficiency and produce less impact on natural systems during their life cycle is not sufficient to meet the current demands of sustainability. Thus, project management of sustainable products design requires an approach that does not limit the use of the benefits of natural ecosystem. Industrial and urban metabolism is presented as a framework for the implementation of optimization strategies and efficiency in resource consumption, enabling the implementation of development strategies of industrial systems from a performance reactive to proactive and eco-compatible performance. An analysis of ecosystems and agents involved identifies the cycles of materials and substances and associated toxicity, in order to place its performance and optimization within the industrial metabolism. Modeled the current situation, the development of a model of industrial and urban metabolism under three fundamental principles of Cradle to Cradle paradigm is proposed. The main objective of the proposed model is closing the materials cycle within the industrial metabolism to improve cyclicity, efficiency and toxicity in urban and industrial ecosystem.
