    Resumen
Despite extensive work on the many aspects of project sustainability management, the subject is still in an embryonic stage. There are relatively few publications and little ongoing research concerning this topic. This paper establishes preliminary proposals for establishing effective processes to manage the sustainability objective in projects. Six processes are proposed, for collecting the promoter requirements, establishing a sustainability management breakdown structure, defining the sustainability objective, identifying the project alternatives, establishing the sustainability strategy, and performing the opportune monitoring and control. The main interrelations among those processes and the ones for initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing the project are analyzed. Finally, the essential sustainability management competences of the project manager are established.
