This work focuses on the ventilation of buildings with residential use, where Spanish regulations set the design criteria for the calculation and execution of the installation. At the moment the "Código Técnico de la Edificación"(CTE) is normative that regulates this type of installations. Formerly there is a vacuum in this field, which was covered by technological standards (NTE). It is true, that there has been considerable progress, however in this work shows that there are still deficiencies, especially in design flows. The current criteria for the calculation of ventilation flows are basically conditioned by health criteria. However, these criteria influence decisively on the demands of conditioning, especially in heating. In this paper we analyze the influence of the ventilation flows and their parameters associated with the demands of heating and cooling. Variables such as climatic zone and type of son building studied. In particular three geographic areas were studied (Cadiz, Madrid and Zaragoza) and the permeability variable of the building and the external wind velocity were analyzed in terms of energy demand. Some errors and deficiencies of the CTE have been found and analyzed.
