The province of Badajoz (Spain) has a forest biomass of 274,335 tonnes, with an energy potential of more than 112,000 top. The objective of this study was to quantify, map and investigate the energy potential of the biomass of the residue from the most representative forestry species of the province of Badajoz. The actions of the present study focus on the value chain of biomass and focus on the production, transformation, commercialization and use of indigenous biomass for energy, heat and electricity.
The availability of biomass in amount, quality and costs is a common problem to the accomplishment of any project of power use of the same. It is realised, search optimal locations of plants for the valuation or use energetic of the biomass. This analysis has allowed to define a series of locations for these plants and an area of storing, for which the costs of harvesting and transport of the biomass to the plant, have been calculates. In the process, they have been used factors like the slope of the land and the distance to the transport networks.
