Determining the optimal size of solar photovoltaic plants has been a major challenge for distribution system planners as well as for researchers in the field of renewable energy. Since the optimum dimension to be installed remains an unresolved problem, we intend to identify the economic, environmental and technical advantages of such installations.
In this way, the range that we establish to select the optimal dimensioning of one or several photovoltaic systems is of one gigawatt of installed power, by solar photovoltaic technology, to obtain a distribution system with the lowest environmental impact at the lowest possible cost. This paper lists the most important criteria that countless scientific publications define when deciding on the optimal size of photovoltaic solar plants with distributed generation.
From the classification of distributed generation, two major groups of alternatives (small / medium) and (large / very large) are proposed for the installation of 1Gw of power by photovoltaic energy. The paper also identifies the indicators that represent all the criteria that affect the system's workings in technical, economic, environmental and social terms.
