Nowadays none questions the great benefits of the natural environment and consequently of the trees, both those that grow in forests and those that are in urban areas, that is, the ornamental trees.
However, the fact that today's society recognizes the value of ornamental trees as natural elements that constitute a natural and cultural heritage does not imply that it is easy to calculate in an objective way because, among others, the trees produce intangible benefits which are not subject to the basic rules of the market such as supply and demand.
Historically, there have been multiple attempts to calculate the objective value of ornamental trees that have turned out in the creation of many valuation methods around the world based on different criteria and methodologies that give rise to very diverse values for the same tree.
In this work, a review of the most relevant ornamental tree valuation methods at the international level is made in order to know the current outlook on that subject and its historical evolution.
