    Abstract
According the writers and historians Luca Antoccia and Carlo Pedretti "Leonardo can boast of having had an indisputable primacy, which places him at the head of the beginnings of modern scientific illustration, indeed, no one before him had been able to expose so effectively in a drawing, a complex technical project ". How did 500 years ago Leonardo da Vinci succeeded in making technical designs of such high quality to represent his conceptual models? Leonardo used his great knowledge in drawing and painting, along with his spectacular creative ability, to generate an important contribution of Graphic Techniques applied to technical designs. The article intends to enumerate and explain his contributions in this field, distinguishing both the techniques of which he was inventor (explosion diagrams, families of routes, maps in "bird's-eye view", aerial perspective, etc.), those rescued from the past ("Foreshortening", distortion of scales, "serpentinata", etc.) or of the ones that he improved from previous scholars (the perspective of color and the waning perspective), by introducing graphical examples of them.
