There are several applications that require the use of abrasives as a treatment for the preparation of surfaces, such stone, concrete, steel or wood, as a previous step to the application of paints or other coatings, in order to achieve their perfect adhesion.
Sand blasting consists of projecting silica sand through a stream of air driven by a compressor over parts and structures to clean the surface or prepare it for further treatments.
In addition to a series of products and by-products of value, the industrial system of steel manufacturing generates important volumes of waste, whose treatment requires the development of advanced technologies to reduce its environmental impact and to make the productive process compatible with sustainable development and circular economy.
Therefore, it is intended to study the use of the wastes from the steelmaking process as possible substitutes for the silica sand that has traditionally been used in the blasting processes, for which the correct characterization will be carried out and a study of its potential application market.
