ICB 4.0 defines the key indicators of competence (KCIs) as elements that apply to all three domains -projects, programs and portfolios- to determine the level of competence in each of the areas that structure the new IPMA standard. KCIs provide indicators for successful management and measure its performance.
At University, there are different projects in which its staff (teachers and researchers) have to develop the function of project managers, without having explicitly received training for it. Significant examples include projects of research, educational innovation or development and implementation of a new degree. In all of them, the need for the promotion of project management competences arises, in order to allow teachers and researchers to face the challenge these projects represent.
In this paper, several competences will be analysed, as well as the KCIs of each of them, to establish control parameters that improve the role of project managers into the Spanish university system.
