Fourth Industrial Revolution, so-called Industry 4.0 (I4.0), has been formulated on the basis of the Factory of the Future (FoF). Shipbuilding industry is currently so far from I4.0, even though it can be treated from the viewpoint of Distributed Manufacturing Systems. In this work, a FoF/I4.0 based methodology for analyzing and improving Naval Factories has been proposed. This methodology involves systems virtualization, simulation and integration through PDM (Product-Process Data Management)-PLM (Product-Process Lifecycle Management) for establishing implementation parallel and sequential phases. Preliminary analysis is focused on the shop-floor, plant, store or individual process manufacturing cell, taken as microfactories. In a second level, this study is completed with their hierarchical analysis. Starting from them, virtual process and systems improvements can be applied.
