Project management is being recognised as a discipline which is being deployed in different industrial sectors and the use of its techniques and tools have been extended to different areas in recent years. From areas which have been predominantly exposed to project management such as shipbuilding, defence or construction industry to new industries such as IT, Communications or aerospace. This article intends to perform an analysis and comparison of project management, its processes and competences reflected on the PMBoK 5th edition (Project Management Book of Knowledge) and ICB4 (International Competence Baseline) of IPMA (International Project Management Association) with the methodology and tools applied on the aerospace industry. Therefore, the intention is to compare the Project management methodology defined by PMBok 5th edition and ICB4 with the management of Projects in the aerospace industry highlighting its similarities and differences between them, considering the wide spectrum of lifecycle and type of projects which are part of this industry.
